It was a great week to be involved in education, especially at Center High School. There were many exciting things happening. Let’s begin with a great big CONGRATULATIONS to Daniel Newmeyer. It was a pleasure to be there for the presentation of his Alan Shepherd Award. Thanks for inviting George, myself, and a great group of students to attend this ceremony. It was a great experience for me to spend some time with these students and really enjoy their company. Thanks guys it really was a good time!! It was very interesting and rewarding for ALL of us. Thanks again Daniel for all you do for Center Schools and our students.
Speaking of Science-I heard that two of our students had an excellent showing at the State Science Fair in Fort Collins. Congratulations to Alanna Chacon and Kevin Garcia. I will have more information to report next week!

Another great experience at Center High School was the presentation “Follow your Dreams” by Gabe Salazar. It was awesome. This gentleman was able to relate to our students and get a great message across to them. Many students were laughing and crying within the same five minutes. We also had a presentation this week from “Abe Lincoln” that was also very inspiring. A special thank you needs to go out to Katrina Ruggles. This lady puts in many extra hours of work and time for our students. I often wonder if she sleeps at night. She is the one that brought in both of these guest speakers. Thank you Katrina for the impact you have on our students.
Etienne Lombard came in this past week to really help me out. He took all our NWEA data and developed RIT goals for our students. Thanks for helping us out on such short notice. I personally really appreciate your time and efforts.
Recently, at the 61st Annual Rocky Mountain District Key Club Convention, Miss Aidee Valles, (right) was selected as Lieutenant Governor for District 5. Aidee is a sophomore at Center High School and will spend the 2013-2014 school year traveling throughout the Rocky Mountain District representing Center, Del Norte, Alamosa, Monte Vista, and Moffat. In July she will represent her district at the International Key Club Convention in Washington, DC.
This past week-
Monday I met with Marsha, Carrie, and George in regards to next year’s schedules. I got to take care of a few e-mails and review lesson plans. That afternoon we drove to Colorado Springs with a group of students to be present for Daniel’s award. Tuesday was full of meetings, evaluations, interviews, SPARK discussion, and writing up scholarship. I ended the evening with our monthly DAC and BOE meeting. Wednesday Carrie and I met to plan for NWEA testing and PLC agenda. In the afternoon we had another positive and productive PLC. I ended the day with a practice interview with a student for scholarships. Thursday I was able to get into a number of classrooms to see some great instruction and learning happening. The afternoon was dedicated to DLT meeting for our UIP plan for the state. Friday was spent addressing many issues with NWEA testing and getting into the classrooms for more observations. The afternoon was spent watching a double header JV baseball game in Alamosa. Saturday was spent in Center hosting a double header varsity baseball game.
The week ahead-
Monday-we will be NWEA testing all morning. I will entail lesson plan reviews, walk throughs, and one meeting to attend. Tuesday I have a staffing meeting to attend and I will be setting up for the Freshman/Sophomore track meet. I will be taking a ½ day personal leave in the afternoon. Wednesday morning I am taking another ½ day personal leave as well. I will be in attendance during a court proceeding in Saguache in the afternoon. Thursday-We will be having round two of NWEA testing. PEBC will be on campus. Friday I plan on getting in some observations, walk throughs, and answering e-mails.
