Last Wednesday during our secondary Professional Learning Community (PLC) day, we spent the majority of our time breaking down our winter NWEA testing data. Research has shown that using data in instructional decisions can lead to improved student performance (Wayman, 2005; Wayman, Cho, & Johnston, 2007; Wohlstetter, Datnow, & Park, 2008). No single assessment can tell educators all they need to know to make well-informed instructional decisions, so researchers stress the use of multiple data sources. Generally, schools collect enormous amounts of data on students’ attendance, behavior, and performance, as well as administrative data and perceptual data from surveys and focus groups. But when it comes to improving instruction and learning, it’s not the quantity of the data that counts, but how the information is used (Hamilton et al., 2009). Therefore, as the building leader I was very impressed with our efforts to analyze our recent data with intentions of increasing academic achievement for all students. It was very impressive to watch our core teachers break into data groups and find a common theme from our students scores. The goal for each grade level is to identify a concept that all our student might need to work on. Each core teacher is going to implement a strategy to attach that weakness in the next nine weeks lesson plan. This will occur before our state assessments (TCAP and ACT). I was extremely proud of the work ALL of our teachers put into this process. Our teacher’s continue to show that they are committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day. Great job middle/high teachers!
This past week-I spent the majority of my time with teacher’s evaluations. I was able to meet with a few teachers on their mid-year evaluations. This process is very time consuming but very important. I believe the conversation leads to improving instruction for our teachers. I had a few RTI meetings, I met with the Seniors for their planned Senior trip. I scheduled some interventions for students on Tuesday. We have ICAP day, and our monthly PLC on Wednesday. I was back to evaluations on Thursday, and after school I watched our basketball teams compete in Sangre. On Friday I had my personal mid-year review from Ted Knight and Mr. Welsh. I was administrator in charge on Friday evening at our home basketball games.
The week ahead-
Monday- is full of meetings with teachers during their prep for teacher evaluations.
Tuesday-La Junta schools will be on site to observe some wonderful things we are doing. I have sprinkled in two more teacher evaluations.
Wednesday-I hope to finish my last mid-year meetings. I have a lunch meeting on Hawaiian night. That evening I will start to prepare for the Valley Classic.
Thursday-I will be at Adams State with Mr. Martinez, Mr. Selby, Mrs. Ramos, Ms. Guadiana, and Mrs. Lopez for a PEBC math workshop. That evening I will be in Sangre to watch our basketball teams compete.
Friday-I will be at BOCES in Alamosa for a Anti Bullying PLC. I will be back in Center for the Kortney Lake duals that start at 2:00.
Saturday-we will host the Valley Classic wrestling tournament for the 6th time. The tournament will feature 5 top ten teams in 2a wrestling. One of those top teams is the Center Vikings.
This is a reminder to staff-you can pay $5 to wear jeans this week.
Have a fantastic week and go Broncos!
