EVERYONE must be committed to
excellence in ALL they do EVERY day.
How could I start my Viking weekly without thanking all of those involved in putting together an outstanding homecoming week? I apologize in advance if I forget to mention someone. First, I want to thank Lauren McEvoy and Brandon Selby for getting their first taste of planning and executing Homecoming week. I would like to thank our wise veterans Diane Parker and Kindra Round for being there for support. I want to thank the student council members for their
work on this week’s events. I think Lauren and Brandon helped our student council pull off a great week. As I sit here and type this, there are about 50 students having a great time at the Homecoming Dance. I want to thank all the teachers that supported our theme and dressed up all week. I have attached a few funny photos of some individuals that showed some major school spirit. I could not go on without thanking all the class sponsors for their time helping decorate floats this week. I hear that some of you were decorating until the wee hours of the night, on that note congratulation to the seniors for winning the float contest. Also, congratulations to Tanya Najera and Ricky Ward for being crowned Queen and King. Thank you to Katrina Ruggles for helping supervise the dance, as that was not expected. And finally, thank you to the entire staff for their flexibility in honoring the many activities that were planned. I know that Homecoming can affect instruction and your ability to teach. I believe you all kept instruction going all week. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and climate of our school. The students enjoyed themselves and they will remember these memories for the rest of their lives.

This week I finally got to recognize a student for her behavior and her outstanding work ethic. Cherisse Paez was given a good conduct award from Mrs. Ruggles for her extra work in and out of the classroom. It seems that Cherisse is taking Senior Seminar very serious and has been going above and beyond to prepare herself for her future. According to some of Cherisse teachers she has been working her tail off in school. Last year I remember talking to Mr. Braiden about Cherisse and her work ethic. Mr. Braiden had high praise for how Cherisse works in his class. Cherisse is an excellent young lady. I enjoy being around her, and it was a pleasure to call her mother and give her this award. Great job Cherisse…keep up the great work.
This past week:
Monday-I reviewed lesson plans; I conducted many classroom observations and worked on my RTT science group preparation.
Tuesday-I purchased prizes for Homecoming dress up days, answered e-mails and pushed requisitions and traveled to Pagosa Springs for volleyball.
Wednesday-I had an AD meeting all morning, and I came back to conduct a couple of spot checks and I prepared for the events the next 3 days.
Thursday-I was in classes for quite a bit of the day. I dealt with a homecoming issue for most of the afternoon. I helped line up the parade, and I refereed a Jr. High fb game before the pep rally.
Friday-I did two WT, and then headed to San Luis to watch our cross country team. On my way back I was able to watch my own boys run at their school. I was a very proud dad as I saw how they both were hurting when they crossed the finish line.
I headed back to Center to watch our Soccer team play, and they proceeded to see our VB team and finished the night watching football. This was a busy, but productive day.
Saturday-I chaperoned the homecoming dance.
The week ahead-
Monday- I am taking a personal day, as I will be in Albuquerque.
Tuesday through Thursday-I hope to see everyone in a class at least once. As I will be conducting many walk throughs.
I am getting close to my magic number for each of the high school teachers. I have two scheduled meetings as I want to concentrate on being in classes.
Friday –Is our second RTT PLC in Sargent. My plan is to go to Ignacio that evening for football.
Saturday-we will host a tri-angular with Sierra Grande and Cripple Creek (all day long).
Have a great week everyone!
Thank you for reading.
