HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY-
As I am writing this, I cannot help but think about how powerful a mother is in a child’s life. I can only speak from experience as I often think what I would have been if I would not have had my mother at my side. As many of you know, as I am pretty outspoken about this…I was a little ornery growing up as a child. I tested the limits in and out of school. I don’t think I was a bad kid, I just liked being funny and that sometimes was not a good thing. I was the 3rd child born out of 4 (3 boys then a girl). We were the Jones kids who grew up in various parts of Alamosa. My folks had to work hard to support our family. As a family, my father was often gone to work, and my mother is the one who drug us around town to various things we were interested in. My mom (Judy) would throw us in the car to get us to games, practices and school. Around 5th grade it seemed like she was always on my case as I was not too motivated about school. My mom is the one who was the disciplinarian in my family. And I will be the first one to admit, I deserved all the consequences that I received. I was the type of kid, who if a teacher did not motivate me in a subject I was struggling I would not do the work. My mom did not blame the teachers, she blamed me J it was my mom who continued to monitor if I had homework, and it always seemed like she knew before me about assignments that were due the next day. When I was in high school, my mom often volunteered her services and held a full time job at Adams State. She was at school all the time. My mom was the first to know if I skipped a class or assignment, and I did not get away with much. I think you get the point! But after all the heartache I put her through, I think my mom would admit that she was surprised at me getting my high school diploma (on time) and eventually getting my BA and my Masters degrees. Later this afternoon, my family will be getting together to honor Mother’s Day! But I often think about where my path could have ended without her constant support and persistence. Earlier this year, we had some medical scares with my mother’s health. As many of you know, this is an awful feeling and you think about her being sick or gone. Thankfully nothing serious has been found, as they continue to search what is going on with her energy level. We continue to pray and support my mom for the future. My mom is the glue that keeps our family together, and I am thankful I still have her! This goes to all those mothers out there that will do anything for their kids! That is my mom, and I thank her for everything she has done for me and our family! Happy Mother’s Day Mom!
Love ya,
Kevin
