The importance of the ACT test
Students and parents need to understand the importance of a high ACT score. Over the next few weeks, our teaching staff has recognized some important content that will be covered. The content will be taught with the intent of gaining knowledge and improving the students' ACT scores. I know that during the week of March 17-20 Diane Parker, Adele Alfson and Carol Philips have created a process for our students to succeed on the ACT test. They have created a partnership with Adams State University to get professors to work with our Center students on the ACT prep. For the third year in a row we will have Carol Smead helping students with every aspect of the ACT test. The ACT test is really important because most competitive colleges value standardized tests more than ever. Over the last 25 years, more and more competitive colleges have EMPHASIZED high test scores because it gives them a way to evaluate students with disparate school records. College admissions offices compete with one another for applicants. Incoming GPA is not as important as the ACT test score. This means that students with high GPAs often lose in the admissions game to students with lower GPAs but higher ACT scores. A student’s math score is really important for college admittance. Center High School is committed to trying to get every student an opportunity to succeed by attending and graduating from college. We will do our best to prepare your student for success after graduation. If you are interested in finding ways to improve your child’s chances, please come into Center High School and visit with any of our educated staff members.

This past week-
Monday- I reviewed a bunch of lesson plans and I caught up on e-mail from being gone last week. I was able to observe some classrooms. I handled a couple of discipline issues because Cruzita and Tito were absent. I checked on some students that recently had some trouble. I attended our home gave vs. Cripple Creek.
Tuesday- I conducted a couple of classroom visits. Marsha and Deb helped me create a schedule for sharing data with our students. We started looking at TCAP schedule and accommodations for the test. I was admin at our home basketball game on Tuesday evening.
Wednesday- ICAP day and the majority of the morning was spent on a parent/coach issue. I had an interview with Jessica Shawcroft from ASU. The afternoon was devoted to PLC time.
Thursday- I was able to do a couple of walk throughs, before the admin team starting planning improvements for next year. I had a parent/coach/athlete meeting that took the majority of my time in the afternoon. I attended an annual for a student in Monte Vista. I came back and worked on spring schedules for athletics, then I covered our district semi-final game in Alamosa.
Friday- I had a scheduled RTI meeting first thing in the morning. I conducted one walk through and regular school business (e-mails, walk throughs, etc).
Mrs. Zimmerman and I worked on the TCAP schedule after school.
Saturday-I covered the basketball game in Alamosa, before I headed to Denver.
Sunday-I seeded the regional bracket in Denver.
