Our purpose is to increase academic achievement for ALL students
On November 12th, we have our monthly BLT (Building Leadership Team) meeting at 6:45 in the morning. Our current BLT consists of some strong professional who make some great decisions on how to improve academic achievement. The BLT members include Katrina Ruggles, Kindra Rounds, Becky Reed, Scott Poole, Daniel Newmyer, Gail Martinez, Julie Weatherford, Cruzita DeHerrera, Carrie Zimmerman, Maria Archuleta (parent) and Kevin Jones. Our group makes decisions for students! The BLT members make the PLC monthly agenda that is predicated towards how we can continue to make our schools better. We make the PLC agenda that usually focuses on ways to improve instruction, data analysis, communication and processes. I am very proud of our how our BLT is structured. It is very clear that our buildings decisions are made by our superintendent George Welsh and principals Carrie Zimmerman and Kevin Jones. The school in run by our teachers, Para’s, and staff. Everyone can have a voice and we can make educated decision through the BLT process. At our meeting last month, we discussed many professional items that pertain to breaking down our quarterly assessment results, lesson plan deadline, special education and cross curricular teaching. If you look at this group and its many goals, I believe we are doing some special things in the middle/high school. This group is responsible for the tremendous things we are doing at Skoglund and Center High School.

With our support ALL children can achieve at high levels and be successful in life
Last Thursday I had the opportunity swing into Kate Newmyer’s alternative band class. This is a class where each individual has a musical skill that they can work on throughout the year. This year’s class is made up of three fairly new members as the majority of the alternative band class graduated last year. A goal for this class is for each member of the group to identify a song that everyone will learn and play. The individual student gets to pick the song that the group will play. When I walked into class Esteban Perez, Nathan Carter, Mrs. Newmyer were playing Gibson’s Martinez musical choice. The class was strumming along, and Gibson would lead the group with his guitar (it was his song). It was unique to see a student directing the class on his song! Personally, I envy everyone who has some sort of musical talent. I know that it takes a certain talent and patience to play a musical instrument. I think each student appreciates Mrs. Newmyer’s ability to play with the group and work on her skills with the class. I will be interested in listening to the final product at the winter concert.

I want to congratulate Ruben Hernandez for his good conduct award. Ruben was chosen from Kate Newmyer’s Foreign Language class. Mrs. Newmyer has asked that all her Foreign Language students use the language they are learning in class. An example, if the students need to go to the technology lab or to the bathroom they are to use ask Mrs. Newmyer for permission in the language they are learning. In Ruben's case he always uses the Italian language in this class. Good job Ruben!
The past week-
Monday-I will reviewed lesson plans and gave out good conduct award to Ruben. I went to court in Del Norte. I met with the rest of our substitutes about our classroom procedures. I had a couple meetings after school.

I did some instructional walks planned in the afternoon with Mr. Schoenfelder. I met with Annie, Lee and Matt on how we can design workouts for the staff.
Wednesday-I had my monthly AD meeting in Alamosa. We had our first parent teacher’s conference that started at 3:30. Thanks to all the parents that attended conferences.
