Good afternoon-
2012 Jump Start
Our purpose is to increase academic achievement for ALL students!
First I want to thank all the students and staff for all their efforts towards a successful “Jump Start”. Although some of the students think that Jump Start is a punishment, I believe we do some of our best
targeted teaching during this process. Our teachers are able to individualize instruction to meet the needs of each student. That is evident by the way the students are gaining content knowledge during their core
classes. This program is being modeled in other districts around the state and I believe we are abiding by many core values by having Jump Start. All of our students at the high school had high expectations and they all stated that they learned a lot. I asked many high school students if they benefitted from Jump Start and their immediate answer was “YES!”
On that note I want to thank Becky Reed for having all of the students RIT scores available before testing. What this process does, is helps students understand what score they need to achieve at the end of Jump
Start. The benefit of Mrs. Reed putting all the scores in class order helps us calculate the data for immediate feedback. Mrs. Reed had all the scores divided into testing groups for easy access, this made the process easier for all of us! Becky was very helpful in teaching all our teachers a lesson on the NWEA process. This lesson helped the process run very smooth this year.
Finally, the entire community of Center knows how great Shirley Atencio is! I cannot go on without thanking Shirley for helping both building principals with calculating scores. Shirley worked her tail off to get student scores for principals to analyze for gaining high school credit. Shirley helped teachers get logged in and worked her tail off to help us with data collection. Shirley spent many hours of her own time to create a spreadsheet, that was very helpful and made locating scores much easier. Thank you Shirley for making this process of NWEA testing and Jump Start a success. . Thank you for being committed to excellence in ALL that you do EVERY day.
This past week:
I was busy looking at lesson plans and giving feedback, meeting about schedules and attending foreign language webinars. We prepared for NWEA by creating a schedule and process that worked. And the latter part of the week was really busy looking at all the scores and individually meeting with students. I did get a chance to watch our volleyball and football teams in action.
The week ahead:
will be like starting all over, as we begin with a new batch of students. Tuesday-we plan on rolling out the RED carpet for all of our
students. We have many activities planned to celebrate the first day of school. All staff members need to wear their focus on the future t-shirts, and you are allowed to wear shorts or jeans. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I plan on looking at lesson plans, and getting back into classes. I have an AD meeting on Wednesday, and many other meetings for tutoring, SPARK, and curriculum.
Thanks for reading and have a great week!
