Fort Lewis College visit is considered best practice to entice students to attend college
With our support ALL children can achieve at high levels and be successful in life
I hope that everyone had a relaxing and restful Thanksgiving Break. As we head back to work, I want to recognize all the folks who made our Fort Lewis College visit a success. First I would like to thank our school board for approving this trip that allowed all of the juniors and seniors to visit Fort Lewis College. Next, Adele Alfson and Katrina Ruggles put a tremendous amount of time and effort into planning this trip. The trip to Durango took months to plan and Adele and Katrina deserves recognition for communicating with Fort Lewis on our itinerary. The students were able to experience college by eating at the cafeteria three times, attending a Fort Lewis tour, attending a Division II college basketball game, experiencing the recreational center (climbing wall, swimming pool, water slide, basketball courts, pool, foosball) and all of the students stayed overnight on campus to experience the college dorm life. The trip was designed to try and motivate our students to attend college and show them what college life is like. I would like to thank all of the students and sponsors for their willingness to help make the trip a success. Thanks to Arnold and Debra Lujan for driving to Durango. Thanks to all the sponsors that went out of their way to support this trip. Laruen McEvoy, Scott Poole, Lee Flood, Matt Platt, Greg Malbon, Etienne Lombard, Katrina Ruggles and I all attended the overnight trip. I know that these sponsors sacrificed some sleep to make sure the trip was successful. Our plan is to conduct another trip for the sophomores and freshman very soon, and another trip to Mesa University in the spring.
The week before break:
I was able to review lesson plans, conduct walk throughs, plan for NWEA winter testing, conduct a new gym run through for athletics, attend some RTI meetings, approve paperwork and payroll and attend the Fort Lewis trip.
This next week-
Monday-I have two early morning RTI meetings on individual students, and I plan to review lesson plans and conduct WT’s.
Tuesday-is pretty open to get into classrooms
Wednesday- I have two meetings on ways to improve our instruction, and I plan to be in classes.
Thursday-I have 2 RTI meetings, and the plan is to conduct more WT’s, and I will be heading to Colorado Springs to present at the CASB convention.
Friday –I will be heading back from Colorado Springs, as we have two basketball games in Sangre and wrestling in La Junta.
Saturday-wrestling in La Junta
Have a great week!
