EVERYONE must be committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day.
Another tremendous addition to the great staff at Center High School is Nate Koerber. Nate comes to our school after teaching a year of kindergarten in Haskin Elementary. Mr. Koerber (Mr. K) is our current middle/high English Second Language (ESL) teacher. Mr. K has a degree in language arts, and he has a plethora of skills that he can teach our students. After observing Mr. K numerous times, it is evident that Center Middle/High found a great one! Mr. K has high expectations for his students and that is evident by the way he challenged his students during Jump Start. One of his best attributes is that he connects with our students in Center as he builds a relationship with his students and they want to do their best for him. Mr. Koerber is a welcome addition to a staff that continues to get better every year. Welcome Mr. K!

On Thursday, that marked the end of our “Jump Start “program for the 2013 school year. I could not go on without thanking the students, teachers and staff members for their dedication and focus on improving academic achievement during the last three weeks. After our students conducted their post assessments (NWEA), it was evident that great effort and instruction was conducted in each and every classroom. Our teachers did a great job with identifying weaknesses in each class by looking at achievement data. Then the teachers planned lessons that tied to student’s weakness in each core class. Students were able to fill in some missing gaps because of our teacher’s instruction. Students were able to prove that each teacher was providing Quality planning, instruction, and assessments lead to high achievement for ALL students. Finally, I need to thank the following individuals for their efforts in coordinating our NWEA fall testing cycle. Chris Hintz did a tremendous job of taking on a huge task in creating groups, tests and proctors for our NWEA tests. Thanks to the elementary for allowing us to borrow Ms. Hintz for a couple of days. Rosa Ramos, Cheri Garcia and Shelly Lopez all did an outstanding job of getting students in testing groups, breaking down their target scores, and problem solving computer issues. These proctors and many classroom teachers did a great job of making the NWEA testing process easier this year. Finally, thanks to Cruzita DeHerrera and Becky Reed for their flexibility to allow us to make-up and finish each test. This proves that if we all work together we can do tremendous things.
A huge thank you to Carrie Zimmerman, Marsha Felmlee and Deb Lujan for arranging pre-registration on Wednesday.
This past week…was super busy with multiple meetings, pre-registration, scheduling, walk throughs and NWEA testing. During the week I had some late evenings with pre-registration, BLT and a BOE meeting. I spent the majority of the end of the week looking at test scores and meeting with students. I had a chance to watch our Center Football team defeat Salida in football. I also got to see the 2013 Lady Viking Volleyball team in action against 3A competition.
The week ahead-
Monday-Labor Day (no school)
Tuesday-first day of school, as we have many activities planned for students and staff. We are continuing the tradition of celebrating the first day of school with assemblies, guest speakers, games and activities.
Wednesday-I have my monthly AD meeting in Alamosa, and I plan on reviewing lesson plans in the afternoon. If I am lucky, I plan on being part of classroom walk throughs. I will attend the teacher copier meeting in the afternoon.
Thursday-I hope to be in classroom for observations and also work on some school documents. We have a soccer game that afternoon vs. Pagosa at the community park.
Friday-Is wide open for WT’s and regular business. I plan on attending our home volleyball and football games.
Saturday-I plan on watching our cross country runners at Cattails Golf Course.
Have a fantastic week!
