Center was chosen "Center School of Excellence" for the 4th year in a row!
Wow!! There are a lot of great things happening at Center High School lately. I have some great news to pass on to everyone. At the top of my list is our most recent recognition from the Colorado Department of Education. Center High School has achieved “Center of Excellence” status for the fourth year in a row. This is a great accomplishment for our students and staff. The high school has been showing growth in CSAP-TCAP for the past 7 years in order to achieve this growth. Attaining this award is getting more and more difficult for the High School because Skoglund Middle School is showing such great growth in their building. As a district we are showing great growth and this growth is due to the hard work of our students and staff. Thanks to Center High School students, staff and parents for all your hard work and dedication to education.

As always everyone in the school continues to work extremely hard on a daily basis. This last week, I want to recognize Cruzita DeHerrera for the outstanding work she has been doing. She has recovered many flaws on our attendance letters. Cruzita was able to contact all the students and parents/guardians to inform them where their child is regarding attendance. I appreciate Cruzita’s extra effort while Mr. Hurtado is on vacation. Thanks Cruzita as you follow our core value and continue to be committed to excellence in ALL you do EVERY day.
NWEA Testing
A BIG thank you goes out to
all staff and students for your hard work this past week with NWEA
testing. Mrs. Zimmerman and Mrs. Cooper
went beyond their jobs to help make this successful. Also a big thanks to Brandon Selby, Allan Allsup and Maria Villagomez for calculating all the
scores and helping with make-up testing. We had implemented
new procedures for conducting the NWEA test. Any time new procedures are
conducted there is extra time and headaches involved in this process. Thanks to everyone for your hard work and
flexibility in this matter.
Another special event happening in Center High School is the upcoming induction into the Center Hall of Fame of Jim Bevans. This ceremony will be happening during the home basketball games next Saturday, December 15th. We will honor Jim at halftime of the boy’s game versus La Veta. The first JV game starts in our competition gym at 2:00. I invite everyone to come out and attend this great event and show your support to Jim and all his accomplishments.
Keep your kids healthy:
Our school nurse Alice Burch is encouraging our parents and students to help fight sickness this year. Please read the following information from Children’s Hospital on when to keep your student home. Please access the following links in English or Spanish.
