With our support ALL children can achieve at high levels and be successful in life
Many students from Center High School had a very unique opportunity on Wednesday evening to meet and be inspired by Mr. Jose Hernandez. Jose is an astronaut who has participated in the space program. He came to the San Luis Valley to present to our community about his life, struggles, and successes. His life, family, and educational experiences were very similar to many of our students at Center High School. The chatter and discussions in the hallway Thursday morning was evidence of just the impact Mr. Hernandez had on our students. Many of the students were able to easily relate to Jose. They were discussing the presentation from the previous evening as well as discussing the book they have been reading about Jose’s life. I truly believe this experience has had a lifelong impact on many of our students at Center High School. I would like to thank those staff members that went completely beyond their daily expectations to make this event happen for our students. Kindra Rounds, Katrina Ruggles, Daniel Newmeyer, Diego Martinez, Scott Poole, and Mike Phillips your dedication to our students is greatly appreciated. Know that your extra time and efforts have made an impact on our students. Thank you for your dedication, time, and efforts.
District volleyball was hosted in our gyms this past Friday. I received many compliments about how smoothly the event went. I really need to thank everyone in our building, from kindergartens to seniors, from custodians, paraprofessionals, cooks, teachers, administration, and every support staff in our building. Hosting this event required cooperation and team work for everyone in the entire building. Having six teams and fans in our building during a regular school day was a real challenge. It took everyone in our building to have this event happen. Thank you to everyone in Center School District for your help and cooperation. I think it was a successful day, but not without your help. I have attached some photos below from our busy athletic weekend.
This past week-
Monday I spent the majority of the day conducting lesson plan reviews. Mrs. Zimmerman and I planned out our winter assessment schedule (NWEA). Tuesday, I reported to CHSAA our enrollment numbers. Mrs. Zimmerman and I communicated with paraprofessionals about their roles in the classroom. Tuesday evening I traveled to Crested Butte for volleyball. Wednesday began with an early morning BLT meeting. I had to get the seeding information out to other athletic directors for district volleyball. I attended a health meeting. Wednesday afternoon I attended Kim Howard’s funeral in Alamosa. Thursday was spent conducting many walk-throughs. At lunch on Thursday, I had an impromptu meeting with all the students to inform them of the lunch process on Friday (since there would be regional volleyball taking place). Friday I spent the entire day running and supervising the district volleyball tournament. That evening I headed to Pueblo to attend the State Cross Country Meet in Colorado Springs on Saturday. From Colorado Springs, I went on to Denver to seed the 1A 11 man state football championship brackets on Sunday morning.
The week ahead-
Monday morning I will be checking on lesson plans before heading to Pagosa Springs to run our All Conference Football meeting. Monday afternoon I will be meeting to review the tutoring program. Tuesday morning students will be taking the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey in their classrooms. I have a parks & rec meeting in the morning. I will also be conducting walk-throughs. I will be attending the first aid training on Tuesday evening. Wednesday is open for walk-throughs. Thursday morning is ICAP day and the afternoon will be PLC day. Friday is our Valley Wide PLC day in Del Norte. We will be assessing our quarterly assessments that we developed at our last PLC. Saturday evening, I will be attending the high school dance.
