2012 Graduation Ceremony
EVERYONE must be committed to the pursuit of excellence. After some changes to our graduation venue that were out of our control, we pulled off a nice and memorable graduation for the class of 2012. I feel that we all worked together to pull off a great graduation ceremony yesterday. I though the ceremony was great to honor our graduates and the ending of a long era at Center Schools. There are many staff members to thank. First, Scott Poole and Lauren McEvoy were rookies in this process. They did a fantastic job with working with all the seniors to make sure this day was special. Daniel Newmyer came through with a couple of flat screen TV’s and some bailing wire to fix all the flowers. All the custodian crew worked tirelessly on making sure the venue was as good as it could be. Tony Garcia, Mike Martinez, Walter Martinez, Panta Villagomez, Arnold Lujan, Gerald Hammer and Rich Brandt did a great job. Finally, we could not have pulled this thing off without Julio Paez and his crew. Julio was given 3 different changes in the last couple days, and you would not know the difference Saturday morning. He had some help and they were great with the sound system and a last minute change with the slide show. 2011 graduate Monica Paez and current students Airik Garcia and Sean Chavez all worked their tails off to make sure this year’s graduation was special. Finally, I would like to thank everyone that was involved with this graduation day. The weather was not perfect, but the attitude of all involved was fantastic. The class of 2012 showed up on Saturday up-beat and positive. Morgan Hart, Kristi Martinez and Shirley Atencio did a great job with trying to speak into the wind. All 3 of their speeches were great. The audience was patient and very accepting that the wind was out of our control. Saturday was an indication of how truly amazing this school, town and community can pull together on this type of event.
Finally, I want to recognize Maya Martinez for throwing 3 new personal records (PR’s) and placing 4th in the discus at the state meet last Saturday. Maya is one of the few athletes that was able to step up her game when the pressure was on. Maya was able to pull herself into the finals by having her best throw of the year 105'4". She carried herself with confidence, and was able to grab the attention of others. Maya is a sophomore and with some summer work we hope that we will have two girls competing for state medals next year. She has one of the best coaches (Dale Beiriger) that has done a tremendous amount of work with Maya. They really worked on the mental aspect the week before state. This seemed to really pay off for both of them.
This last week-First, my wife surprised me for my birthday, and took me on a quick trip to Las Vegas. It was great to get away for a couple days. When I was renting a car, I grabbed the cheapest car available. When we got to the counter, the gentleman offered us a convertible Camaro for $15 more a day because it was my birthday. If you see the picture, I had a lot of fun in the sun with this car. Thankfully it did not cost me a speeding ticket. I was really surprised and the trip was awesome.
Tuesday-Friday I was able to get many things accomplished. I packed my office and moved it over, had a couple of meetings about students next year. Also, I was able catch up on some athletic director items. Also, I caught up on requisitions and transportation request for summer. I worked with Mrs. Zimmerman on discipline reports, and I finished up with end of the year evaluations with teachers that were gone the last week.
I want to thank everyone for reading my Viking Weekly this year!
Have a great summer!
