Well here we go, the beginning of the ending of another great school year. Time has passed by so quickly, it seems like yesterday we were getting things ready in our classrooms and starting football season. Today I am traveling home from the state track meet and writing my last weekly communication for the 2013-2014 school year.

Congratulations to ALL members of NHS (new and old). It is a great accomplishment to belong to such a prestigious club in any high school.
A big thank you goes out to Diane Parker, Brandon Selby, and Adele Alfson for putting together and hosting such a great academic awards ceremony for our high school students. I know this requires a great deal of time and effort. We ALL appreciate your dedication to our students. I know that Adele spends many hours getting awards and scholarships organized for this great event. Thanks for all your hard word. Another thank you needs to be given to the parents and students that attended this event. Thanks for all your hard work and commitment to your education.
Maya Martinez did a fabulous job of representing Center High School at the Colorado State Track Meet. She brought home her second state medal for her high school track career. Maya placed 4th in state this year in the discus. She along with Luis Mariscal was recently named as Center High School’s Athletes of the Year. Good job Maya and good luck in your future.
I couldn't end my last communication piece for the 2013-2014 school year without taking some time to reflect, laugh, and appreciate a great teacher from our district. This will be the last time Ms. Parker that you will be asked to read and struggle through my communication piece. I know that I would have had you as a high school language arts teacher my writing skills would be much better than they are today. I asked around for some fond memories and quotes from your colleagues, so here they are….
George Welsh:
“When Diana took the student leaders to the Broadmoore and I bought sugar cones and had students pretend they had broken them off the gingerbread houses, she left me a voice-mail on my phone telling me what a dog I was.”
Fred Garcia:
“As a student and/or an educator, I have witnessed Center School District deal with its share of highs and lows. The one person that I can honestly say has been a true professional is Diana Parker! From day one she has had high expectations and demands from every one of her students. It was a pleasure to work with her. Good luck Diane, Center will miss her.”
Marsha Felmee:
“She was telling us at dinner about the parties the staff use to have and “woodsies”. They were wild back in the 70’s. Times have really changed. She is parking challenged. She is consistent and stable. We will miss her. She is still effective as a teacher.”
Deb Lujan:
“Working people have a lot of bad habits, but the worst of these is work. Diane was my teacher back in the 80’s. I will miss her.”
Katrina Ruggles:
"I used to be afraid of Diane, until I learned that she is not scary, just very serious about her job. I learned from her that every minute we have young people in charge is valuable. I learned about holding the line when it comes to high expectations for all students. Very ofter when I would plan an activity for the whole school, I would ask myself will Diane think this is worthwhile? I have so loved getting to know her both personally and professionally. My daughter recently told me even though her classes are sooo hard, she is her favorite teacher and she was going to miss her. We will all miss her".
George Welsh:
“She is in the last week of a 38 year career and like clockwork she turned in her lesson plans for the last two days of school. They were good. She is the consummate professional.”
