This seems like a weekly announcement. But, on Wednesday Center HighSchool teacher Daniel Newmyer was honored as the San Luis Valley Teacherof the Year banquet for 2013. Daniel was honored for his work in and out of the
classroom. Daniel clearly demonstrates a passion for his subjects and has shown an incredible track record of commitment to student achievement in math and science, particularly in scientific research.I'm impressed with what he's done in his four years of teaching;building a science fair program, getting the support of other teachers to help students with their projects, and creating community buy-in. Congratulations to Daniel, as he continues to make a name for this school and district.

EVERYONE must be committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day!
Last week Carol Phillips really helped us out with all NWEA make-up tests. This responsibility includes setting up each group to finish each test. I really appreciate Carol for her willingness to take this responsibility of making sure each student finishes their test during the NWEA testing window. Also, thanks to Cheri Garcia for filling in for Carol during her lunch time.

Last week, the Daniels Fund announced the names of 250 high school seniors from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming whose exceptional character, leadership, and commitment to giving back to the community have earned them a Daniels Scholarship. Our own Alexa Lobato was
recently accepted as a Daniel's fund scholarship winner. This prestigious scholarship will help Alexa attend Texas Christian University (TCU) next fall. Congratulations Alexa on this great honor!

This past week-
Monday-I had my final evaluation from Focal Point, and conducted some walk throughs, and had a quick staff meeting to prepare for the ASU visit. Tuesday-we prepared for our ACT test, and in the afternoon we had a
great day on the ASU campus (view slides below). Wednesday-I was on the merit trip with 37 students to Denver as we attended the 9 News/Weather/Science Day. Thursday my plans changed as I was back in many classrooms conducting walk-throughs. Friday- I spent the morning in classes and the afternoonover at track helping with our track meet. Saturday, Sunday and Monday -I was at the annual CADA (Colorado Athletic Directors Association) conference in Broomfield.
The week ahead-
Tuesday-I have a couple of meeting regarding upcoming trips, and RTI behavior. I plan to be in classrooms to check lesson plans and observe instruction. I will travel to La Veta in the afternoon for a varsity baseball game. Wednesday-I have our monthly AD meeting in Alamosa as we begin to plan for next year (by-laws and schedules). I plan to be back on campus in the afternoon. Thursday-PEBC will be on campus as we will be looking at various strategies to help improve classroom observations. Alamosa and North Conejos school districts will be here helping during this PLC. Friday-Is open...but I have been selected as a petit juror for the Alamosa combined courts (juror duty). My hope is I will not be selected and I will be at work. Saturday-I will attend our last league baseball games vs. Sierra Grande and I will prepare to host the SPL track meet and the SPL baseball tournament the following week.
