The next few weeks I want to introduce our new teaching staff to the students and community of Center. During the summer we had a difficult task of hiring for some teaching spots that were vacated by retirement and teachers moving on to bigger and better things. Center High School lost a great teacher last spring when Mr. Braiden decided to go on the “dark side” and become a principal in Del Norte. He is an amazing teacher, but I feel that we landed on our feet pretty well with the hire of Quinn Harmon. Quinn comes to us via the Boettcher Teacher Residency program. She recently graduated from Denver University. Quinn has shown the last couple of weeks, that with preparation and hard work that this job can be very rewarding. Personally, I have been in Ms. Harmon’s class numerous times. She has shown great progress for a first year teacher that did not originally think she was pursuing this career. It is evident that Ms. Harmon spends many hours to prepare for her daily classes. I am excited to see what she can do with All of her students this year. Ms. Harmon exhibits many of our core beliefs. Quinn exhibits that quality planning, instruction, and assessments lead to high achievement for ALL students. Welcome to Center High School Ms. Harmon, we are excited to have you!
EVERYONE must be committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day.
Next, a big extra thank you goes out to Cruzita DeHerrera and Rosa Ramos. We have been running around trying to find resources for students that did not perform well on their NWEA tests. It was an administrative decision to not enroll the student in to jump start, because that increases class sizes. Cruzita and Rosa have been very flexible helping us with scores, student contact, and intervention resources. These two staff members have been asked to do a lot lately. They take on tasks, accomplish them, and they do not complain. We ask them to do many things last minute. They are appreciated with their willingness to contribute. Thanks Cruzi and Rosa!

This past week-
I continued to review lesson plans, conduct walk throughs, work on tutoring students, NWEA schedule and sat in numerous meetings regarding students, evacuation radios, scheduling and NWEA. Towards the end of the week I traveled to Denver to participate in the Kickoff reception at the Governor’s mansion for the Teacher Boettcher Program with Stefan Welsh, Kevin Hagan and George Welsh.
The week ahead-
Monday-is loaded with multiple meetings on NWEA and spring travel. I am planning on squeezing in lesson plan review and walk throughs. We end the day with pre-registration for all of our students from 2:00-6:00. If you are a parent, please do your best to attend with your child.
Tuesday-Looks like I have a couple meetings regarding students. I plan on getting into multiple classes on this day.
Wednesday and Thursday-Is our marathon day for NWEA. All students will be testing in all 4 areas. This is a very important day for students to attain their spring credits. Wednesday afternoon we have our 2nd IPAD training and that evening we have a BLT meeting planned in Alamosa. Thursday evening I plan on watching our first volleyball game in Monte Vista at 6:00.
Friday-Is a teacher work day. Mrs. Zimmerman and I are going to schedule time to meet with staff. We will be having Ted Knight on campus to help with curriculum alignment for lesson planning. Mr. Welsh has offered all of our staff members a barbecue at his house. I will be traveling to Salida for our first football game of the year.
Saturday-I will be back in Monte Vista for our volleyball games vs. Centauri and Pagosa Springs.
Have a great week!
