Our core beliefs state that our mission is to increase academic achievement for ALL students. Some students need to be pushed more than others. In Daniel Newmyer’s freshman math class, he has an outstanding core group of students to continue to push themselves each and every day. Many of them have completed their first part of their math curriculum much ahead of schedule. Mr. Newmyer often reports to me that this freshman class has some awesome individuals that continue to show up for volunteer tutoring to better themselves. They continue pushing themselves on a daily basis to increase their skills in math. These students are taking an individual ownership in their learning and that is extremely exciting to see. We all are very excited to see their tremendous growth and we cannot wait to see what they can do on their state test in March. Great job to all the students that have finished their part A math Algebra 1 packet ahead of schedule.
As we start to wind down the 2014 school year, many of you know that Diane Parker is on her last months of being a teacher here in the Center School District. It is going to be a sad day when she leaves our building. I personally want to enjoy the last months of her career as she has touched so many students in the Center School District. Sometimes we forget that Diane does many others things outside the classroom. Diane sponsors our high school knowledge bowl team. Diane puts in many extra hours to support the students to compete on a monthly basis. Recently the team competed in the regional knowledge bowl at Adams State. Diane practices during lunch time and after school. Many of us see how many times a week they practice. In my opinion the last six years the team continues to get better and better with Diane's guidance. Congratulations to the knowledgeable team as they continue to represent our high school in a positive way!
Congratulations to our Center Vikings 2014 League and Regional Champion wrestling team. Our Center Vikings are led by Coach Brian Ullery, Carlos Valencia and Tito Chavez. Last Saturday in Del Norte our Viking wrestlers dominated the regional tournament with 8 regional champions. The team qualified 11 wrestlers as they are going to compete at the state tournament in Denver on Thursday at the Pepsi Center. The team’s regional championship was one step closer to their ultimate goal and that is to place at the state tournament. Good luck Vikings. My hope is they continue to wrestle the way you have all year and great things will happen!!! If you would like to follow our Viking wrestlers at state you can listen to the matches on the radio 96.5 or you can follow the wrestling on the CHSAA.org website.
Last Wednesday our shop teacher Mark Jones took a few students to Centauri High School to compete in a simulated skills USA competition. The ultimate goal is for Mr. Jones and his crew to be able to compete in the state Skills USA competition in Denver. This is a great experience for our career and technical department students. I appreciate Mr. Jones’ efforts as he is increasing the knowledge and experience for these students.
