Quarterly Assessments
Quality planning, instruction, and assessments lead to high achievement for ALL students!
It is hard to believe, but we already have the first quarter of the school year under our belt. This week is being dedicated to quarterly assessments in ALL classes. It is imperative that students take these assessments and give their upmost best performance on them. These assessments were produced during our valley PLCs. Teachers and administration will use the data from these assessments to help drive instruction for the next quarter. Remember after all your hard work this short week; you will be rewarded with a much needed FALL Break!!! Enjoy your extra long weekend and come back next Monday ready to hit it hard again.

With our support ALL children can achieve at high levels and be successful in life!
I have been out of the building from time to time the last few weeks. I have been involved in some PLC training with other principals from around the state. I have had the pleasure of conducting walk-throughs with some other high schools (Del Norte, Pagosa Springs, and Ellicott). During these walk-throughs it allows us as administrators the opportunity to share and steal ideas from each other. It also helps validate our observation practices. We are able to share rubrics, strategies, and communication pieces with each other. Everyone has a little something to offer to everyone else. It is a very rewarding and validating experience. It is good to know that many of us (administration) are on the same page as far as evaluating and conducting walk-throughs go.

Congratulations to Daniel and Kate Newmyer. They both were selected as Teach Plus members, as they had the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues throughout the nation. They both represented Center Schools, as members of a fellowship and collaboration of knowledgeable teachers.
This past week-
I began Monday morning with pushing papers and a PO for a student who was filling out an application for a scholarship. Communication for the district volleyball tournament was also handled this morning. I made a phone call to check on accommodations for ACT testing. The majority of the day was spent with Ellicot conducting walk-throughs/PLC training in our building. Monday afternoon I was involved in the “Getting Moving” training with CDE.
Tuesday was spent in Del Norte conducting walk-throughs with their secondary team of administration. Mrs. Zimmerman and I had a short meeting to discuss after school tutoring procedures.
We conducted multiple instructional walk-throughs with teachers for most of the day. I also attended a meeting on NWEA skills pointer and briefly introduced myself to the new ASU tutors.
I began Thursday with an early morning RTI meeting. I had a short interview with the Center of the Universe Productions class. The remainder of the day was spent conducting walk-throughs.
Friday I took a personal day to watch my St. Louis Cardinals beat the LA Dodgers in extra innings. Yes...I traveled all the way to Missouri to watch them with my family. It was a long, but great day!!
The week ahead-
Monday was another personal day, as my family and I traveled back from St. Louis. (I am sure I will find some time this evening to watch game 3 of the series though)
Tuesday will be a catching up on communication/e-mails and pushing paper work through. Reminder grades 6-12 have the EARRS survey this day. I will also attend the ICAP review training Tuesday after school.
Wednesday morning will be ICAP day for students in the morning. There will be a substitute teacher meeting at 8 am to go over procedures and expectations. The afternoon will be dedicated to a teacher work day. The Sunshine Club will be having its 2nd annual Banana Split Party in the cafeteria at 1 PM. All staff is invited, come join the fun!! I will be attending the JV volleyball game in Sierra Grande this evening.
Thursday and Friday there is no school!! I will be attending Regional Cross-country in Pueblo and the Sargent volleyball game on Thursday. Friday I will be at the Monte Vista/Center football game in Monte Vista.
Have a great week~ Jones
