With our support ALL children can achieve at high levels and be successful in life!
On Wednesday of this past week, we had many administrators from the Alamosa School District in our building. I have always known what dedicated, hard working, willingness to learn and respectful students we have here at Center High School. It was so nice to hear all the compliments and comments from outsiders on our students’ behavior. The Alamosa Administration was very impressed with your conduct on Wednesday and how you are all so willing to learn and take responsibility for your learning. A big “Thank You” goes out to the student body of Center High School.
Marcus Torrez won a “Good Conduct” award this week. Marcus is always so willing to work with any and all students in the classroom. Marcus has gone out of his way in the weight room to help students become successful in this class. He is willing to partner up with anyone and works well with whoever he is with. Mr. Flood nominated Marcus for this award based on his willingness to cooperate with all students regardless of their abilities.
The Valley Classic Wrestling Tournament was a real learning experience for everyone involved. I took a risk and went out on a limb by implementing a new scoring system that involved some innovative technology. The beginning was a little rocky, but by the end of the tournament we were all on the same page. On a better note, our wrestlers did a great job and had an awesome tournament. It was fun to watch the improvement of our wrestlers, both fundamentally and aggressively. Big thanks to all our CHS cheerleaders for their successful dance and their help with awards. I need to thank many people for their patients and dedication to this ournament. Julio is always the savior when it comes to technology. He jumps in and makes things work, we don’t know how he does sometimes but he works his magic and gets it done. Teddy Garcia, Ascencion Najera and Chris Vance learned on the fly and kept the technology piece up and going. Brian Ullery, Carlos Valencia and Jose "Tito" Chavez and the entire wrestling team for setting up/tear down of all the mats in the gyms. Our table help was willing to learn and implement this new system as well. Thank you Sarah Vance, Mike Phillips, Clinton Phillips, Skip McClure, Colin Schrader, Eddie Valdez, Le Jones and Cheri Jones for your wrestling knowledge (ha ha). We always have one if not the best hospitality rooms in the state. This would not be possible without Susan Banning and Carla Smith. Thank you ladies. Thanks to all of you that donated items for this event. This tournament would not be possible without the help of other administration in our district. Thank you Carrie Zimmerman and George Welsh for your willingness to be available and help wherever possible. A big thank you to Carlos Lopez and John Noriega for helping figure out our scoreboards on Friday night, they both stayed with me until 10:30 to make sure we are prepared. John and Charlie Kuhns do a great job announcing for the tournament. Thank you to the custodian staff for setting up, tearing down and presenting our facilities in such a great manner. I heard many compliments on our great building. Gerald Hammer, Ponta Villagomez, Walter Martinez, Tom Garcia, Stephen Salazar and Rich Brandt thank you for your dedication to our school. A final thank you to Perfecta and Soyla Guadiana for maintaining the front gate for all spectators to enter the gyms. As you can tell it takes many hard working folks to pull off a great tournament. Great job Center High School!
